Is it the gradual emergence of antique and vintage shops that make Shepton Mallet, the sister town to Honiton? ... not quite, but it is a possibility in the near future. Did you know? the manufacture of silk and crepe revived the town's fortunes in the 17th and 18th centuries and Shepton's mills manufactured the silk used in Queen Victoria's wedding dress. Honiton lace was also used for the Wedding dress of Queen Victoria which proved an important boost to Devon lace-making.
