Guest Artists at the One Craft Gallery

The One Craft Gallery is a maker's co-operative in Shepton.  To bring in new artworks and create a constantly fresh look, there is a programme of guest artists, which I organise.  The guests stay for two months at a time and we have two at once. This month we have Craig Eyles, a potter, and Brigit Lilley, a printmaker.

Craig's sophisticated ceramic vessels are thrown from his potter's wheel in his Frome studio.  His pots are decorative and functional, with beautiful coloured glazes, and will be in the gallery until the end of August. 

Brigit lives in Shepton and makes colourful, vibrant abstract prints, of all sizes, using mainly collagraph and monoprint techniques.  They are often inspired by the landscape.  She has a range of popular card designs, based on her prints, and her artwork is around until the end of the month.  

It is a pleasure to have such lovely artworks for sale!  If anyone is interested in becoming a guest artist do contact me...

Avocado and Pink

Avocado and Pink is a new flower shop in Shepton!  It is the brainchild of Dawn Porter, who opened Custard pudding tearoom and art gallery a year ago, just by the Market Cross, and is situated in the same premises.

The flowers are mostly grown in Dawn's own garden, or are locally sourced.  She provides fresh, hand tied arrangements in beautiful colour combinations and scents, with more than a hint of hedgerow about them!  They can be bought in jam jars, vintage vases or ordered for bouquets, weddings and special events.  The sign shown below was made by me!  It is great to have another delightful, creative business in town...

Confidence builds as three more shops are leased in Shepton Mallet. The Milk Bar shop from Turn Back Time, the original New Look shop in Market Place (Town St) and the old Palmer Snell shop in High St (next to the Wine Vaults)

As soon as I can release the news I will let you know who is coming to town!

SHOP WATCH - My Coffee Stop

Karen Mercer and Gunter Hollenstein who run My Coffee Stop on Enfield Chase train station will be opening a second shop in Shepton Mallet. My Coffee Stop first opened in February 2009 and since then has won several awards, including Enterprise Enfield’s Green Business of the Year and the North and West London Business Awards for Innovation.

Karen and Gunter are excited about joining the Shepton Mallet community and have lots of enthusiasm and ideas to share with the town. We look forward to receiving news of My Coffee Stop launch date at 34 High Street.

Shops Available - Turn Back Time

Shepton Mallet town is changing, niche independents who offer a unique choice of hand-crafted, art, fashion, vintage, interiors and antiques are beginning to transform the town. Slowly but surely we are seeing positive signs. Enthusiasm is brewing....we just need a bit of sunshine to kick start 2013

In my view, the priority for the town is to attract more businesses to lease the available shops. I cannot believe there are two prime locations in the Market Place.

The Victorian Shop

The food spilled into the square on Market day outside the Sergisons shop 

Shop Display cabinets made everything look desirable 

Vegetables looked so much more appealing on natural sack cloth and eggs laid 

on straw...simple effective merchandising

Style became a little more sophisticated, simple and symmetrical

The town was vibrant during the filming and I don't see why we can't get a little bit of it back.

SHOP WATCH Pretty Shops in the Market Place

It was a lovely blue sky today, Easter Sunday. 

This is the view of the Market Cross from our new shop at 12 Market Place, No21 Vintage & Interiors

 The windows are so large there's lots of reflection, but its great for dressing. 

We haven't painted the shop yet at 12 Market Place, weather permitting, but have taken down the Pickwicks cafe sign

We are so lucky to join some pretty shops in and around the Market Place. Our neighbours,

 One Craft Art Galley have been in the town for at least 10 years

Somerset Antiques and Interiors, (originally Wells Emporium) have had two very good years at their new location in High St, near Market Place Shepton Mallet. We can see them from our shop...and I am sure a catch up over coffee on the bench will become a regular!

There are two shops vacant in a prime location in the Market Square. Join us in our quest to create a unique place to shop...... Independents who offer something different and make shopping 
a enjoyable. Don't miss out on the fun!

   Wouldn't it be fantastic to welcome new traders to the other two prime locations that you mentioned on the Market Place? It could be just what Shepton needs to move it forward this year...
